Freikorps Schlageter Badge Type II,
Very nice oval badge constructed in silvered bronze. The obverse depicts a Christina cross, inscribed “Schlageter”, “Spartakus”, dated “1919/23” with crossed swords within a laurel leaves on the left, and oak leaves on the right side, separated by a bow on the bottom.

The reverse has a vertical pinback, with four prongs fully intact with makers mark “Paul Küst Abzeichen Ordenfabrik Berlin, S.W. 19” and marked “Ges. Gesch. 101” measuring 48.34 mm (w) x 60.58 mm (h); weighing 34.7 grams. Overall the badge is in very good condition.

The Schlageter Badge is named afther “Albert Leo Schlageter” a leutnant (Lieutenant) served in the first world war and later in the “Freikorps” between “1919” and “1923”. Schlageter participated in sabotage against the French occupation in the Ruhr area.
He was caught and executed and became a martyr of the national socialist movement. A former comrade of The Freikorps “Hans Oskar” established a Schlageter association and museum
In “1936” the Schlageter movement was dissolved and the badge discontinued, wear was forbidden as it was not an officially recognized award!
